Show IUDORER IS BEATEN TO DEATH NEAR TUCKER, UTAH Provo, April S. Joe LaBella, a caretaker of property for the Iteyn-olds-Ely Construction company, was murdered this afternoon near the Denver & Rio Grande railroad track at a point about two miles west of Tucker by two men with whom ho had an altercation, and who crushed crush-ed his skull with a club. Two men are now under arrest at Thistle who answer descriptions given by a Mexican Mex-ican trackwalker who saw the quarrel quar-rel and subsequent fight from a distance. I According to the story of the Mexican Mex-ican trackwalker, he passed La Bella as he came down the track In the afternoon. A little later he happened happen-ed to look back and saw two men gesticulating with La Bella. Almost Immediately afterward tire two strangers attacked LaBella with clubs. Becoming alarmed, the Mexican Mexi-can walked farther away to the ranch of William Williams, who accompanied accompa-nied him back to the scene of the trouble. The two men found LaBella still breathing, but he died in a brief time. JJis skull was horribly crushed and a club, smeared with blood, was lying ly-ing near by. Williamss got an alarm abroad as soon as possible and all available officers were soon on the man hunt. Telephone communication with Provo was had and Deputy Sheriff J G Williams, accompanied by County Coun-ty Attorney Grant C. Bagley, went up from here to Tucker, bringing the body of LaBella back to Provo tonight. to-night. A description of the two men who attacked LaBella was obtained from the Mexican trackwalker, who spoke through an interpreter, and this was sent out east and west along the rnilroad line. Tonight Sheriff Eas: was notified that Constable J. W. Huff at Thistle had arrested two men there who seemed to fit the description. de-scription. The meager description secured was that one of the murderers was about six feet tall and wore a black coat and hat, and that the other was about five feet six inches tall and wore a yellowish coat with brown spots and a striped or checkered hat. Sheriff EaBL will go to Thistle and bring the men back to Provo, provided provid-ed they meet the description given by the Mexican trackwalker . In fact all stragglers are being taken in by the officers as a matter of precaution precau-tion in tho hope of preventing possible possi-ble escape of the murderers. no |
