Show j uu BOYS PLAY BUDIT AID STAIT FIRE HAKE - Officers are engaged this afternoon in a boy chase which leads into the high cliffs directly east of the city at the head of Twenty-fourth street. Last evening three youngsters, ranging in age from 14 to 16 years, appeared at the home of M. Clothier, 1684 Cahoon avenue and, representing themselves as hungry travelers on their way to Huntsville, asked for and were given a meal. They were armed with .22 caliber rifles and were warmly dressed. About midnight members of the Clotheir family saw the reflection of a fire in a near-by vacant building owned by Miss M. Guernsey and later lat-er the boys were seen emerging from the structure, proceeding toward the cliffs. When an investigation of the premises was made, a fire, which had been built on the board floor, was found to have burned its way through the flooring. The boys had raided chicken coops and killed and eaten the stolen chicken. chick-en. One of the places raided was that of a widow at Twenty-second street and Taylor avenue. The windows had been destroyed and the doors riddled with bullet holes. The sheriff's office was informed and the trail of the budding outlaws taken up, Field glasses were used and the movements of the youngsters traced to near a cave in the mountain side, but late this afternoon the boyB had not ben caught, |
