Show Ml CASES OF CANCER CURED Celebrated Heidelberg Surgeon Gives Summary of Radium Treatments Since 1906. Berlin,' April 9. Professor Czerny, a celebrated Heidelberg surgeon, publishes pub-lishes in the current number of the Deutsche Revue, a summary of the results observed by him in 4000 cases of cancer treated by radium since 1906. His conclusion is that cures have undoubtedly been effected by means of radium and mesothorlum, although they have been permanent in only some of the cases. Professor Czerny favors tho acquisition acquisi-tion by the imperial government of large supplies of radio-active substances sub-stances for Invalids entitled to the benefits of the state insurance system. sys-tem. He thinks it premature to substitute substi-tute radium for operations and favors tho removal of cancers by the knife and then the application of radium for the prevention of a recurrence of I the growth. Professor Czerny himself has from the beginning combined operations with radium, and is convinced that this system promises the best result. He treats superficial cancer with mesothorlum. |
