Show STORMS ON THE PANAMA CANAL To Be Forecast by Weather Bureau Stations in Caribbean Sea. Washington, D. C Feb. 4. Prepa rations arc blng made by tho weather bureau for the opening of the Pana B canal Authority to extend Its service to the Carribbcan sea, so a S to obtain complete meteorological reports re-ports from sixteen stations, has been asked by the bureau for the protee I t inn of the shipping that will uso the canal It Is proposed to restore certain cer-tain features of the comprehensive weather service established through out the West Indies In the Span ish-American war in the interests of the fleets and transports. One of the new stations would be a fully equipped station of the WBB ther bureau, similar to those In the United Slates and located In tho canal Bone Itself. Sub-stations would be maintained at various points along' the canal for the dissemination of weather Information. In addition to the land service the bureau wishes to provide for the extension oi marine reports by wireless wire-less from vessels plying the waters of this region so as to provide the safest possible Information covering the entire Carrlbbean section. The weather obbservatlons In the Carribbcan sea. It Is believed, will be of great assistance in connection with the various storm warnings now being be-ing reported through tho station sig nals and wireless to all the ships In the South Atlantic and Gulf districts In these storm warnings special re ports from the entire West Indies will be used. The bureau also has asked authority of congress to make sels mologlcal observations in the canal zone a regular part of Its work |
