San Francisco, Cal , Feb. 4 When the Rev. Charles F. Aked, a clergyman clergy-man of international renown, formerly former-ly pastor of the Fifth Avenue Bap tist church, New York, takes the chair February 13 next, as president of the Church Federation of San Francisco, and, ex officio, as chairman of the executive committee of the federation he will be called to rule on a com munlcatlou from the Presbyterian Ministers association of the San Francisco bay cities, asking for his resignation as president because oi unorthodox utterances from the pul pit of the First Congregational church last Sunday. Dr. Aked said he did not adhere to, and would not support the doctrine of the miraculous conception and birth of Christ ".My conclusion upon this question," he announced, "is that the faith of Mark and John and James and Paul is good enough for me. It is good enough for any Christian. These men say nothing about Jesus having come into the world in a miraculous way I prefer to stand with them What do we mean by saying He was divine0 It is a question of quantity and not of quality. There is divinity In us, but so much more In Him tl -t I prefer to call Him divine Perhaps it would be better to speak of the di vineness of man and the divinity o" Christ. ' After reading this quotation, given out by Dr Aked himself the Presbyterian Presby-terian association sent to the federa tion a letter, reading In part as fol lows- "While freely according to all the right to fullest liberty to worship God according to the dictates of their consciences, we believe that the statements state-ments of his belief as given in the i daily press by the Rev. C. F. Aked D. D.f thoroughly disqualify him to act i j as the official representative of the) i evangelical churches of San Francisco. j "Therefore, be it resolved that the j ! executive committee of the Church j ' Federation be requested to suggest to Dr. Aked the wisdom and justice oil his retirement from the presidency ot the Church Federation and. In thel event this is not secured that as a protest against such leadership, thej Presbyterian churches of the city be advised to withdraw from connection with ihe federation " The letter was signed by C S.
