It was at such a time, with a few Intimate friends of Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff gathered at their home,, that r their little son was christened, Charles Sweet, and the pledge given by his sponsors that his joung life ? should be cherished and guided and :i matured into a noble manhood. The Rev. William Fleetwood read the service, and Mrs. J. S. Corlew l stood for the baby's grandmother, fr Mrs. Charles C. Sweet, who nowbe- comes his godmother, as well. His r two uncles, Capt. W. S. Woodruff, I and Chester C. Sweet, as his god- r 'fathers, - were represented by A. G. j Horn and William VanAlen of thlB I city. After the christening little Charles, who is only thirteen days ? old and is a handsome laddie, was loved and admired until Miss Cun- ningham perhaps afraid that the t young man's affection might be sto- len from her bore him off, and only f the uninteresting parents were left to entertain the guests. ! MRS. HALVERSON HOSTESS. Mrs. George Halverson Is entertain- f ing a large number of guests at a nicely appointed luncheon in the t Weber club dining room this after- noon. Samuel Alexander For- j' ter who are to be married tomorrow j in the Episcopal church, were guests , of honor at one of the prettiest affairs af-fairs of the social season, when Mr. and Mrs, Ralph Bristol entertained a? a danolng party about fifty guests. 1' Beautifully arranged decorations were of pink carnations and sweet ; peas entwined with smllax. In the ballroom ferns and carnations In ; French baskets were effectively placed while in the dining room bows of pink tulle and streamers wero $ draped prettily. A pretty feature at t luncheon was the ice cream frozen ij in the shape of a rose and on each guests' dish was placed a pink rose, i As a souvenir of the occasion each V guest was presented with a favor in the shape ' of a bride's slipper. Dur- ing the dancing punch was served.
