Show I THEATERS I AT THE ORPHEUM If the Sullivan and Considine circuit cir-cuit continues to keep up the high standard of shows that they have set with their first two bills of Empress vaudeville, it need not worry as to local patronage. While the bill which opened last night has not as many really remarkable features as the bill last week, it proved, as a whole, much more entertaining, almost al-most every moment being one of the kind of action that draws almost continuous applause. There is not a weak act on the bill. All had thought that there was nothing new in a contortion act but Herman, who with Shirley his partner, part-ner, present "A Mysterious Masque-rader" Masque-rader" has It on anyone of his type that ever got around this way. His act I5 also presented in a way that gives rare entertainment. Orville Reader, the pianophlend, keeps up the- pace, set by Herman in the opening act, by doing some stunts on the piano that won him several encores. His "Westminster, ChlmeB" made an especial hit. James McDonald, who appears In some original songs, has som9 "Stuff" that the audience didn't seem to tire, of a little bit. The tiree Yoscarrys present a gymnastic act that has a number of original features In their- line of work, which they present at a furious furi-ous pace. Their act is done in a comedy vein, that made it all the more enjoyable. A trio of entertainers far above the average are Whyte, Pelzer and Whyte. They have voices of a quality qual-ity that would take them almost anywhere any-where in more serious work but they choose to amuse and succeed in a way that would better be seen than described. Last night's audiences did not seem to want them to leave the stage at all. The headline act is the "Six Diving Nymphs" and was well received The act Is a pretentious one and the 6ix graceful young ladles give an exhibition exhi-bition of aquatic art that would b difficult to improve upon. The dives are all announced and the act is exceptionally ex-ceptionally interesting. On Wednesday Wednes-day night, an opportunity will be given to local amateur divers to show their skill in the big tank and prizes will bo given to the most proficient, pro-ficient, both among the ladles and gentlemen who have the courage ani. deBlre to try their skill. |
