Show GOVERNOR SPRY IS ' OBJECT OF ATTACK Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 22. Charging that Governor Spry Is not only financially finan-cially interested in the Hotel Utah, but has stated that he is willing to withdraw the requisition for tho extradition ex-tradition of C. W. French to Utah on a charge of passing bogus drafts, Attorney At-torney Fisher tonight from Prescott issued a statement attacking the executive ex-ecutive of Utah, ridiculing Morgan and styling the complaint a joke. He says his client Is too busy consummating consum-mating a deal Involving millions to be worried by the Utah case or the attempted extradition. Morgan, on the other hand, declines to take Fisher seriously and intends to make a dignified presentation of the facts in his possession to Governor Govern-or Hunt, Monday, March 2, and is confident so strong will be his case that the Arizona executive can hardly fail granting French's extradition. Just what business deal French says ho is carrying out in Prescott has not been made public, but the name of Judge Benjamin Wells, candidate for governor against Hunt at the last election, iB coupled with that of French In his alleged promotion plan. Fisher says thai' when the business his client is now engaged in is made known it will be shown that he is backed by hundreds of millions and that the biggest business deal In the history of the state will be revealed. This Is said not only to Involve development devel-opment of great areas of rich mineral lands, but the taking over of a string of big Arizona banks. The following statement was is sued tonight by Fisher over his signature: sig-nature: "We are not seeking favors from Governor Hunt, but we do uot presume pre-sume that Governor Hunt Is beholden to anybody or anything except his own sense of justice. The extradition granted California was by the executive's ex-ecutive's secretary in a paper signed in blank by tho governor who wa3 absent at tho time. "The present requisition is a legal joke. If Morgan had practiced law instead of holding a petty political Job he might be able to draw a complaint that would stand. No Arizona attorney at-torney will go on record that the complaint states an" offense asainst the stato of Utah. "I believe I can prove that the governor of Utah is interested in tho Hotel Utah. It has been reported that he stated in Salt Lake that ho would withdraw both requisitions if the drafts were paid. Since the draft3 have nover been legally presented they can sweat until wo finish with them on the conspiracy charge in tho federal courts. We presume tho people of Utah are not proud of the proceeding nor pleased with thejr officials being used as a collection agency for private Interests. "It would be well for them to savo the money that Morgan Is blowing in at the most expensive hotel in Ari zona. In the meantime Mr. French is sleeping comfortably In his private car and Is negotiating several million dollars' worth of business for the benefit of this state." |
