Show RAILROAD RATE CASES BEGIN IN IDAHO TODAY The hearing of the rate cases against tho Oregon Short Line railroad rail-road pending before the Idaho public utilities commission will be heard In Boise today The rate cases affecting affect-ing the Hiil City branch, which Is a stub running from the Wood River branch, are the more important parts of the hearing to be held. Thla case was set for hearing about two weeks ago but on account of deep snow the' petitioners and witnesses living along the line of the Hill City branch were unable 'to got to Boise, where the public utilities commission holds its hearing. The case was continued until today. The farmers and business men along tho Hill City branch, which is a new line, claim that tho freight rates on commodities shipped between be-tween intermediate points is greater than on commodities shipped from points on the Hill City branch to points on the Wood River branch and to points on the main line of the Oregon Short Line. Sugar beets and hay are among the commodities upon which reductions are sought No specified reductions are asked by the petitioners, but the utilities commission commis-sion is asked to establish reasonable rates which will be lower for short hauls than for long hauls. J. A. Reeves, genoral freight agent of the Oregon Short Line; D. R. Gray, assistant as-sistant genernl freight agent of the Oregon Short Line, and George H. Smith, attorney for tho road, left yostorday for Boise accompanied by several rate clerks to bo present at tho hearing and present the views of the railroad on the matter of the reduction re-duction of rates. |
