"No operable cancer should be treated, with radium; operate first if possible";- if ( not possible, treat with radium' and' then operate when the can cerIm proves," said Dr. Wood. He 'declared that radium does not and cannot cure cancer, but only checks Its growth for a while. "Tho only way to cure the worst form of cancer," the physician asserted, as-serted, "Is to cut it out at the earliest earli-est possible moment." Dr. Frederick L. Hoffman said that 75,000 persons died each year from i the disease. Dr.. William J. Mayo, the noted specialist spe-cialist on cancerous growths, denied that he said meat eaters were more susceptible to them than vegetarians. The nature of the disease is unknown he said and no one is in a position to say how it may be avoided. Dr. Mayo declared that many cancer can-cer deaths were caused by the popular popu-lar belief that it is incurable. Patients, Pa-tients, believing that surgical work could not aid them, kept their disease secret, as if ashamed of it. |
