Show ROBERT HIGGINS PLEADS GUILTY Galosburg, III., April 10. Robert Higgins, pleaded guilty in the Mercer county circuit court today to tho indictment in-dictment charging that he murdered his wife. Higgins asked for the mercy mer-cy of the court. Julia Flake, Higgins' step-daughter, for love of whom he was said to have killed his wife, was not arraigned. Her attorney, D. A. Hebel, certified to the authenticity of a confession by the girl In which she accused Higgins Hig-gins of killing her mother. The second count in the indictment of Higgins, concerning his relations with Julia Flake, was dismissed. The state began offering evidence in confirmation con-firmation of Higgins" plea. S. R. Gates, deputy sheriff, testified, that Higgins signed In his presence a confession con-fession of guilt. Judge Olmstead said he would pronounce pro-nounce sentence next Tuesday but gave no hint as to the punishment he will impoee on Higgins, The states attorney asked the court not to inflict the death penalty. z -nn |
