Show TWENTY-FIVE RACESMNED- Three Cup Defenders' Owners Arrange Schedule With Various Yacht Clubs. Tho owners and managers of the three yachts now building for tho defense de-fense of America's cup next September Septem-ber ajul the several yacht clubs have arranged a tentative schedule which gives the defenders twenty-five races exclusive of those during the cruise of the New York Yacht club. According to the present arrangement arrange-ment the first races will be June 2, 3 and 4. These are to be under the auspices of the New York Yacht club and are to be sailed on the Sound The starting point will be off Great Captain's island, which Is near Greenwich. Green-wich. That point has been chosen by the regatta committee of the Now York Yacht club because It enabled the committee to select n good course, which may be fifteen miles to windward and return, should the wind be from a favorable direction or around a triangle of ten miles to a leg. Should these distances be impossible, im-possible, the course may be shortened and sailed twice over. Larchmont Club. The next race is scheduled lor the Larchmont Yacht club on June 6, and after that the three yachts will take part in three races outside Sandy Hook, under the auspices of the New York Yacht club. The dates for these three are June 10, 11 and 12, and the courses will be the same as for the International races and under the same conditions as far as possible. These courses will be fifteen miles to windward or leeward and return and around a thirty-mile triangle, with one leg, the first if possible, ten miles to windward. The starts will be made from the Ambrose channel lightship. Long Island Sound. All the races in June with the exception ex-ception of the three off Sandy Hook will be on Long Island sound and the courses will be made as long as possible. pos-sible. In July the cup defenders will go to Newport and race out in the open, where the courses will be thirty miles in length laid just as they will be for the cup races themselves. Yacht Club Cruise. The annual New York Yacht club cruise will be from July 31 to August S, and the program probably will be at rendezvous at Glen Cove, with races through the sound, stopping at Huntington, Morris Covo, New London Lon-don and Newport, and then to Vineyard Vine-yard Haven and back to Newport. This plan has not been accepted yet, but it is finding more favor than any other. The Astor and King's cup races will be sailed off Newport as usual, but the defenders this year will not be eligible to compete for those trophies nor for the flag officers' cups which are offered for the runs from port to port. |
