Show THE H SHAPES II HEADGEAR r Jauntiness is thc characteristic of the now hats, imparting Itself even to the classical- Rembrandt, Gainsborough Gainsbor-ough and Fragonard shapes, all of which have come in for their share of popularity this Spring. This jaunty note, which, by the way, greatly ndds to the chic of every type of hat, chiefly by the newest tip-tilted adjustment adjust-ment of thc hat, Tor which there is a decided fad. While the crowns have changed very little, if any, in aspect (the beretta crown still being undisputed undis-puted favorite) the brims have diminished dimin-ished In width at the- right side, and the decrease in width was. added to the left side which has suddenly assumed as-sumed considerably larger dimensions forming broad rcvers, which at a daring angle rise high above the crown. The new hign coiffure is said to have been responsible for the new silhouette, also for the continued vogue for collapsible hat crowns,1) for it would be practically impossible to adjust a bar with one of the old time rigid crowns to the modern coiffure and still more difficult to keep It in the correct position. Thc tip-tilted hat, as smart as it is, and as much as it accentuates the eharm of some physiognomies, phys-iognomies, it shares thc one serious drawback with the high coiffure that it is not generally becoming. When not properly poised at Just thc correct cor-rect angle, the narrow and extremely high hat, extremely low on one side and raised high at the other, may result re-sult in producing a silhouette which is anything but beautiful. It may he Improved, however, by the recently Introduced fashion of wearing a cluster clus-ter of ear curls, which are splendid for throwing soft shadows over a faco that no longer possesses the charm of youth. Toques abnormally high on one side and flat on the other are shown In great variety. In these the brim is ofttimcs evenly wide through out the high effect being produced by a wide pleating of ribbon, piece silk, mallne or velvet. No decrease Is noticed in the popularity popu-larity of beretta styles; the latest designs are adapted to meet the new demand for height by having soft folds of their drapery pulled high at one side and supported at this point by fine wire. The bandeau, which may be either circular or else extend over only one side (generally the left) Is a characteristic feature of many of these beretta shapes. |
