Salenmo, an Italian, who is on his way from Sacramento to Chicago, reported to the local police last night that ho had been swindled out of $300 by two of his countrymen. In telling his story, he said that ho arrived ar-rived in Ogden-at 10 o'clock from the west, minus $300 which he had when he left Sacramento. He had met his two countrymen on the train and they had confidentially disclosed the fact that they were carrying some money with them and he also told them about hb "wad." One of the men made the suggestion that it would be safer for one man to carrv all of the money to Ogden and then distribute it here. His confederate immediately turned over his "roll" and Salcrmo, unsuspicious of anything any-thing wrong, did likewise. When they arrived In Ogden his handkerchief supposedly still containing contain-ing his money, was turned over to him and when ho opened it a few minutes later he was surprised to find only a roll of tissue paper. Ho stated to the police that the two men got off at Ogden. The officers offi-cers took up a search, In the meantime mean-time telegraphing to Salt Lake City and several towns along the line of the Union Pacific. |
