| Show DEATH FROM BURSTING reservoirs loss of life and immense amount of damage follows break of waters bridgeport conn july 30 loss of life and immense damage to property followed the bursting of reservoirs north of this city as a result of the unprecedented fall of rain early today the precipitation la tho series of showers which struck connecticut last night and this morning reached a total of seven inches the dam at wards mill at aston went out at 2 this morning sending a great body of water down through the town of trumbull there was no warning to the people who lived on tho banks of what Is usually a small water course tha house occupied by john besco his wife and several children was picked up by the flood and carried a mile below the lesco family were asleep at the alma and all were rescued after a perilous journey A house occupied by michael moran was hurled against the berkshire bridge and smashed to kindling wood and it that morau was drowned police and firemen went to the rescue and saved several lives in north bridgeport the water swept against the barnum avenue bridge and wrecked it just when an ice wagon was crossing it in the wagon were william and john Stark ln the wagon and horses were swept away and was drowned starkin was able to swim ashore ONLY ONE IN RUNNING port huron alch july 30 only one of the three yachts which started in tho race to mackinac Mack anac the Sl tarah owned by 11 A alger jr of detroit is sailing the brewa of the yachts sultan and city of straits found the weather heavy and put bach to this city they will start again tomorrow and will race tor the second prize PRESIDENT AT CHURCH oyster bay july 30 the president accompanied by mrs roosevelt and several of their children attended the morning services at christ episcopal church today no official visitors were received by the president the calls made by neighboring relatives and friends were entirely informal |
