FARMER SARE BENEFITED busy taking advantage of the late rains the farmers are taking advantage of the rain of the past few days and are turning every drop of water that they can their fields the rain has been of the greatest benefit to the crops and while the effect of the drought cannot entirely be overcome much good will be done this Is especially true of the beets potatoes lucerne and the fruits where the leaves of the beets have been destroyed by the drought the water will do but little good as it will only cause new leaves to grow and take the sugar from the beets but where the leaves aarein fairly good condition the beets will receive a new lease of life and the crop will be greatly increased the potatoes which have suffered greatly wll be m fair condition it the rains continue lucerne the first crop of which has been harvested has already shown the good effect of ithe rain on the street today the farmers have been conspicuous by their absence and in spie of the tact that it Is saturday the day that farmers do their buying for the week they are evidently all engaged in securing what water they can while it lasts
