The practice is followed by all the stake organizations of the Mormon church. It is a joyful day for many who are not able to get away from their homes except on rare occasions. oc-casions. Todaj at Glenwood park is "old folks' " day for tho aged of Box Elder stake and the Rapid Transit company has been taxed almost to Its capacity to handlo the largo number of people attending Superintendent Bailey states that the company has carried a thousand persons from Brigham and othor points on its line to Glenwood park during the day and hundreds of people of the city" are visiting with the people from Box Elder The affair is conducted by committees commit-tees appointed by each of the ten v,ards of Box Elder stake, the aged people of each ward being under the care of a committee There are 217 persons past 70 years of age at the park mingling with their many friends and relatives and feasting Those past 70 years of age have everything, including transportation, trans-portation, furnished free of charge and every possible comfort Is afforded afford-ed them. The long tables spread In the park were loaded with good things to eat. Aside from feasting, the afternoon is being spent in music and songs, speech-making and recitations. No outdoor sports have been arranged for the occasion, but prizes will be given to the oldest people on tho grounds, those halng the largest families and those longe.t in the country. The tables were not cleared until about 2 o'clock when the large crowd proceeded to the pavilion where the progTam was given. It Is expected that the festivities will not be over until after 6 o'clock this evening, when the older people will return to their homes to the north and the younger ones will remain re-main to participate In the dance of the evening. No accidents have occurred to mar the pleasure of the day's outing. The old folks are much pleased with the kindly consideration given them by the various committees, the employes of the Rapid Transit company com-pany and the good people of Qgdeu. |
