Grav. a Progressive had a lead for the Republican nomination over Campbell, Camp-bell, who has been a stauch supporter of President Taft. The contest for the seat In the United States senate now held by Charles Curtis, in which Curtis was opposed bv Governor W. R Stubbs, is close and will require returns from distant western counties to decide. Both candidates claim nomination. Congressman D. R Anthony ran a close race with. W I. Stewart. Progressive, Pro-gressive, in the First district and more fuller returns are necessary to decide tho winner, although Anthony appears In the lead Arthur Capper, publisher of the Topeka To-peka Capital, was chosen the Republican Repub-lican nominee for governor by a large majority George H.
