Show i uu AS TARGET 'Desperado Sends Bullet After Bullet Into Dy- -ir.g Sheriff. Santa Ana. Cal., Dec 17. The unusual un-usual pallor of the desperado who was shot to death by militiamen yesterday yes-terday after he stood off a sheriff's posse for hours, killed Under Sheriff Squires, aud wounded three deputies,, led to the belief today that he was recently released from a penitentiary. This vas strengthened by the armament arma-ment found on the dead man and his evident preparedness for desperate adventures. He carried a high-power rifle and revolver and a big supply of ammunition. Up to noon today, however, no progress toward the identification oj the desperado had been made. It was hoped various postal orders and scraps of paper bearing the names of Oregon towns found in his pockets would aid in solving the mystery Albert Prather, one of the wounded i deputies, may die of his injuries, but the other two will recover.
