Madson, David Jensen, J S Corlew and Georgo Porter, composed com-posed a committee which appeared before be-fore the county commissioners of Bok Elder county yesterday. The object of this meeting was the establishing through Box Elder county the transcontinental trans-continental boulevard and automobile route In addition to the county commissioners com-missioners of Box Elder county, who wero present, tlia county superintendent superinten-dent of roads of Box Elder county and representatives of the Commercial clubs ot that county. The mooting was characterized by the utmost enthusiasm. J. J. Brum-mitt Brum-mitt had in charge the arrangement of the meeting and gave a short history his-tory of the work that had been dono towards the establishing of a transcontinental trans-continental automobile route, showing the Interest and enthusiasm of the various chambers of commerce and commercial clubs In California, Nova-da, Nova-da, Wyoming and other states, through which tho trans-continental routo is to pass, quoting from some of tho leading men in the trans-continentul country, as showing that a road of this kind would be as Important and beneficial to any city or town through which It would pass, as the construction construc-tion of a railroad. O. 13. Madson. chairman of the commissions com-missions s of Weber countv gave n very forcible tall, telling what WoDer county had done md expressing a" willingness lb co anything' that he or tho county could do towurds facilitating facilitat-ing the constructing of a road of this kind. -A. P. Bigelow took as his topic the benefits to bo derived from the construction of an extensive boulevard boule-vard system in the mountains and canyons, near and adjacent to Ogden Og-den and Brigham City, outlining some of the extensive systems It is proposed pro-posed to build in tuo near future. O. J. Stilwell, who Is probablv tho best informed man In regard to'the boulo-vards boulo-vards and automobile travel in Utah, gave a very forcible and telling speech on tho trans-continental and automobile automo-bile line and the benefits to bo derived from the building of tho same Mr. Stilwell gavo a great many statistics showing the number of automobiles owned In various states and the amount of revenue derived by different cities and states from tourists who have already adopted this method of travel during their summer vacations, ho stated in his address that it was a very low estimate to say that the au-tomobllo au-tomobllo tourist travel through this section of the country would double each year during tho next four years, and that by that time the automobllo traffic and thoso who were engaged in that line of business would derive a very substantial revenuo from this lino of business alone. Judge Howell took for his subject, Good Roads, he being president of the Good Roads Association of Utah' He went into tho subject very extensively exten-sively and showed the benefits to be derived by the local people by having good roads built and said that our forefathers had prepared one of tho best and established a very large domain, do-main, had built cities, irrigation canals planted orchards and had prepared one of tho best places on earth to livo and that an3' great country was noted for Its excellent roads as was Rome He urged upon the commissioners of Box Elder county tho necessity of building good roads. After this tho meeting was thrown open Informally Informal-ly and various .maps examined. The county commissioners of Box Elder county aro very enthusiastic over the subject of having a trans-continental route go through their county and aro already woll undor way In preparing prepar-ing a route that will bo quite satisfactory satis-factory to everyone. They stated that one of their troubles had been that most people had traveled the wrong way but that a better route would bo made and every thjng done that is possible in order to establish a good well-built automobllo route across their county. Box Elder county Ib particularly fortunate at this time in its position as in addition to its $10,-000 $10,-000 which it is to receive from the state of Utah for road building, they have voted $176,000 for the purpose of building their roads, which will give them some of the best roads in tho state of Utah Tho committee was highly elated over Us trip and the success which attended IL A map and circulars will be gotten out in tho near future, showing show-ing tho new route selected through Box Elder county and sign boards will be placed along" the route. oo |
