Cardinal O'Con-nell O'Con-nell coupled, a stirring tribute to President Taft and a denunciation of the Judicial recall in an address at a St. Patrick's day dinnor here last night He said: "Tho very llfo of the people's liberties, liber-ties, religious and civic, is in danger when the foundations of law and the independence of judges, be thoy civil or ecclesiastical, are imperiled. "Liberty, founded upon the eternal principles of divine justice, Interpreted Inter-preted and applied in civil life by God-fearing magistrates, untram-nielcd untram-nielcd and unfettered and unafraid of passing popular passion, that in a word, Is t,ho guarantee of what alone has made this country great perfect per-fect security of civil and religious liberty lib-erty to all "No ono has voiced those sacred principles more clearly, fearlessly, uncompromisingly un-compromisingly than the big-hearted and cool headed statesman who now presides over tho destinies of tho United States of America " oo |
