Show PARKING THE PLACES For some tjmo past the Southern Pacific has ;boen loading dirt at Twelfth street and shipping it to the various stations along tho Salt lake dlvlj-ion where the parking work is now under ay. Tho earth recently shipped has been tnkei) to Promontory Point where It is proposed to make a park I b a scries of beautiful terraced gardens gar-dens with flowers and shade trees. This policy of parking will be carried car-ried out all along the line wherever water is available, and many stations in the desert, so long unstlgtly, will become erilable oases where flowers, shrubs, shade trees and sparkling fountains will greet the eye of the weary traveler. Assistant Superintendent Easton said this morning that it was difficult to grow anything on the desert and for this reason it Is necessary to haul large quantities of good soil to the various projects and that this gardening gar-dening in tho desert was accompauicd by little expense, hut that just as soon ns possible all of the station along the Salt Lake division would be turned Into parks and no expense spared in making the improvements permanent. |
