Renewal of the Lorlmer Investigation was provided provid-ed today by the Senate committee on contingent expenses which approved a resolution covering tho expenses of such an Inquiry . The report will come up In the Senate tomorrow and a fight Is expected. Tho report was unanimous but thero was a specific understanding that it should not be construed as an Indication of the committee's views on the morlta of the case So particular particu-lar woro some mombers on this point that they insisted on a written statement state-ment thnt tho action Indicated only that, if another Investigation should be undertaken, provision would bo made for tho oxpense. It also was agreed that the recommendation recom-mendation of tho committee today should apply to any Investigation ordered, or-dered, whother under tho LaFoIletto resolution providing for a specinl com-mltteo com-mltteo by the regular committee on prlvlllges and elections, Thp first fight in tho Sonato on the resolution will como when an offort la mado to have It transferred to tho committee ou privileges and elections for a roporL Senator LaFollotte will antagonize such a motion, and contend for action by the senate without furthor committee com-mittee references. Senators who a-L tho last session voted In favor of Mr. Lorlmer's retention of his scat hold the viow that the Senate should tnko no furthor action In the matter until tho Inquiry under way in Illinois Is concluded. |
