Show FAILED TO jDUtY IMj LICENSE Heber J. Helner, who conducts a grocery store at 1800 Washington avenue, ave-nue, was arraigned in police court this morning on the charge of refusing to display his merchants' license He was found "guilty of the charge and fined $5. Officer John Cooney, the complaining complain-ing officer, stated that he had twice called at the Helner store and requested re-quested that the license bo displayed He testified that iHelner told him that ho had the license at home and that he did not think he was required to display It. "When I told him that he would have to display the license so that I could see It," said the officer, "he told mo I would have to 'show him ' I left the store and called two days later when he again refused to display tho license and told me again that I would have to 'show him.' I called up the police station at his telephone and asked that a warrant be Issued for his arrest." Helner on the stand stated that he had not Intended to violate any city ordinance, but that ho did not think It was necessary to show tho officer the license and that ho had It home at the time the officer called at his place and asked to see tho paper. niv |
