Show to us la3t evening as we sat on our cushioned teat, the soap box, and although wo did not know, it set us to thinking hard, and we concluded that a factory of some kind sheuld be started in our city. A woolen mill would certainly certain-ly prove profitable, more so in Manti than in any other city in the territory. We have an abundance of water and our city is located in the centre of the wopl district. Thousands of pounds of wool are shipped from here every year only to be shipped baek again in the form of blanket, clothing, etc. If a woolen mill ws started it would not only prove a paying instituiion but il would also make it possible for our merchants to save thousands of dollars annualy that they now have to pay for freight, and our workingmen would not be euc of employments during the winter as is the case at present, Every winter win-ter there are a number of of men and boys out of work in our city, this should notbe, some industry ought to be started that would furnish fur-nish employment for some of them the whole year round, especially during the winter. Manti is. and alwavs has been, a prosperous city, but our merchants and nionied men have always been a little backward in regard to encouraging en-couraging home manufactories or industrial enterprises, and have ie-lied ie-lied too much on the fact that the county court and Temple are located loca-ted here, and have no doubt thought that those two institutions were all that was ne .essary to make a city. There w city in this county that is jealous of Manti because it is the county sea', an 1 the citizens of the aforesaid city are trying very hard to have county seat removed. Their o.ty is rapidly growing, while Manti is rather slow: and unless something is done to furnish employment to our workingmen am to encourage others to locate here, we may come out. the little end of the horn.
