Show Concert Given In Hinckley ' Hinckley townspeople were surprised sur-prised and pleased when a concert was given there Monday night in the ward church. Marlowe Nielson had come down from Salt Lake to visit his mothor, Mrs. Emma Nioi-son, Nioi-son, accompamed by his wife and two of his pupils, and they responded respon-ded to demands for a concert on very short notice. The performance perform-ance was met with great appreciation, appreci-ation, and it is hoped and intended intend-ed to give one each year henceforth, hence-forth, with advance publicity. The young ladies with Mr. Nielson Niel-son were a soprano and pianiste, both students oj the John Marlowe studios in Salt Lake City. Miss L-Cretia L-Cretia Ferre, the soprano, has been a student of Marlowe Nielson for two years, and is leaving soon for New York City to study at the Ju-illiard Ju-illiard School of Music. Miss Ferre sang an aria from Madam Butterfly, Butter-fly, the recitative and aria from The Creation, and gave the group of numbers she has been studying for her entrance examinations at Juilliard. Miss Arlene Barlowe, pianiste, pi-aniste, played the accompaniments for Miss Fere and Mr. Nielson. She is a student of Frederick Dixon, who teaches at the John Marlowe studios. Mr. Nielson sang two groups, Deep in My Heart, and Song of Love, and compositions by Alberti, of Niw York, who gave a course last summer at the Salt Lake studio. stud-io. He and Miss eFrre sang tthree duets. Mrs. Nielson gave two readings read-ings on the program. Mrs. Nellie Watson and her daugh-tres daugh-tres Jean and Helen, and Miss Stella Stel-la Sampson, left Wednesday for Salt Lake City. They will visit there for a few days with another ' daughter, Alta Jamieson, and then go on to Oakland for a visit of two weeks. Miss Sampson, who teaches teach-es there, will remain. |
