Show 3 Photographs on Display jj The Braithwaite Fine Arts f Gallery at Southern Utah I State College, Cedar City, ! announced that an exhibition ! of , photographs will be on display July 11 through . August 18, 1979. According to Prof. Thomas A. Leek, curator of art at SUSC, the exhibition will be comprised of 00 original photographs centered cen-tered on the American documentary theme of "My Land--My People" by photographer Arthur Rothstein. The exhibition is a moving portrait of the American character, especially of the 1930's and 1940's. Arthur Rothstein is a well known and highly respected photographer. He has said of his work, "My photography is based on the concept of knowing the subject and telling the story as graphically as I can. I use design and composition to enhance the effect and make the message clear. I prefer to portray people with dignity and sympathy and to capture meaningful expressions. ex-pressions. Sometimes I will select a revealing detail or fragment of the whole scene in order to make a more effective statement. My photographs are primarily designed to serve a useful purpose in communication, yet many of them have been considered works of art." The exhibition was arranged with the International In-ternational Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester, New York. The Braithwaite Gallery will extend its opening hours to accomodate Utah Shakespearean Festival patrons-weekdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays l p.m. to 7 p.m. |
