Show Iron Co. Promoted for Films ."Scenery ranges from the desert and sand dunes to the high Wasatch Mountains (11.500 feet). From desolate salt flats lo beautiful mountain lakes, rivers and creeks...." reads the "Location Information" ' written by Bob Miles, a Parowan resident and Film, TV Production Coordinator Co-ordinator lor Iron County. Miles and Carth Jones, executive secretary of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, met with the Iron County Commission last week and discussed their activities to promote the film industry here. Miles described a recent trip to southern Calif, where he showed slides and left the location information with producers and various studios. He said that the area might have "a crack" at a pilot program being produced by Michael Landon. The location sheet describes airports and other access to the area, scope of locations, climate-weather, accomodations ac-comodations and meals, equipment and vehicles, livestock, dailies and props in the area. Miles presented the idea of a "period" street in Parowan which could be used in filming. He also said that a proposed mall in Parowan could be done with "period architecture". ar-chitecture". The group discussed the availibility of authentic props such as wagons for use in the film industry. Miles thought that a sound stage would definitely help attract the film industry but that a "period" street would be a less expensive start. "It will take some time to develop the industry's interest here but we have to keep plugging at it," said Miles. |
