Show I! ' ' Parowan 3rd Ward I Boy Scout Cam pout at Th under Ridge compass. They further were required to set up camp, start a fire using only three matches, and cook their own dinner. Boys attending were: Jeff Patterson, Neal Orton, Kelly Orton, John Snow, Mike Barkdull, Alan Burton, Bill Riggs, and Mike Robinson. Assisting the Scoutmaster with supervision were several fathers, Bishop Hughes, and Kenneth Orton, Deacon's Advisor. Orton, Scoutmaster, the various troops were divided into two teams called Mountain Men and Indians, the Third Ward boys being part of the Mountain Men. The troops then competed for awards in various ac-tivites. ac-tivites. Awards received by Troop 343 were: the rope toss, completed in a new record time of 18 seconds; marksmanship with Kelly Orton qualifying for a rifle and shotgun merit badge; and muzzleloading (black powder) competition won by Bishop Reginald Hughes. The boys won the cleanest camp award with 700 points, the only troop earning over 600 points. In over-all competition the troop rated 4th. In addition the boys received the Bear Claw award for participating in an overnight hike to Hen-drickson's Hen-drickson's Lake, following a designated trail using a t PAROWAN Scout Troop I 343 of the Parowan Third J Ward Joined 12 other troops ; ; from various wards and stakes in a week's camping i !; experience at Thunder i Ridge Camp last week, si Under the direction of the I ; camp staff, the boys worked ; ; on merit badges, learned camping skills, and par-j par-j ; ticipated in a variety of outdoor activities. A camp-! camp-! fire program was held each evening at 9:30 p.m., with all troops participating in skits and so forth.
