More than 850 band members and advisors will stay in Cedar City on the night of July 17 through arrangements being made I by Mr. Lamoreux and the SUSC Office of Continuing Education and Public Services. I The bands are performing in Los Angeles the night I before the Cedar City per- formance, and will travel I throughout the country following their appearance here. Cedar City and Southern Utah State College will host a Marching Band Contest featuring five of the top marching bands from throughout the nation on Monday, July 17 at 6 p.m. in the SUSC football stadium, it was announced by Joseph Lamoreux, director of bands "This program will feature the latest show concepts in corps style drill using flags, rifles, and multiple percussion," Lamoreux said. He describes the event as one of the finest of its kind available. The band contest has been planned here partly through request of local residents who have attended rehearsals of bands passing through Cedar City enroute to contests in other parts of the country. For several years marching bands from California have used SUSC facilities for rest and rehearsal and have attracted at-tracted groups of interested spectators within hearing distance of the music. Judging for the contest will be through the professional auspices of the Mid-America Judging As.sociaton. Because of the fee for obtaining the services of these judges, a charge of $2 per person will be made for those attending the band contest. Special group rates of $1.50 each for 20 or more people may be made through Mr. Lamoreux and seating arrangements can be made for these groups to sit together he said. In addition, as a special for families observing Home Evening activities, a rate of $6 for the entire family is being offered.
