Show T & C leads National League . . .1 rs I r l I L ' J This week's action in the Cedar National League has been one for league supremacy between Town and Country and Elks. Coming into the week of play the two teams were knotted with identical records of 8 wins two losses and a tie. Elks slipped early in the week suffering a setback at the hands of Ron's Sporting Goods 9 to 6 to put T&C out in front. Friday night, however, the' two clubs met to make up a game that was called on May 24 with the two clubs deadlocked at 6-6 when it was declared too dark to continue. The game picked up in the top of the eighth inning and in that frame Elks pushed in four runs with out benefit of a hit and went on to win the game 10-7. That put the two clubs back into a tie with records of 9 and 2. Following the playoff of the tied game the two clubs tangled for a regulation game and it was Town & Country who came out on top, 11-4, to take over undisputed un-disputed lead in the league with only a week to play. As action began this week the standings were as follows: T&C 10 2 Elks 9 3 Jaycees 8 4 Ron's Sptg 7 5 Tink's Auto Parts. . . . 5 7 Lions 4 8 Garden Park 3 9 i in me sixm. T&C had another victory during the week, a 23-8 win over Garden Park. Jolley and Petty were on the mound for the win. Garden Park had Stout, Gale and Imlay on the mound. T&C had 6, 7, 7 in the first, 2nd and 3rd innings respectively to build up an un-surmountalbe un-surmountalbe lead. S. Anderson An-derson was the leading hitting with 3 for 3 including a triple and he scored four rounds. Doubles were hit by Turner, Briggs and Petty for T&C. For Garden Park extra base hits included a double by Gale. One of the big games of the week was Ron's 9-6 victory over Elks. Lundberg and Esplin were on the mound for the win. Elks sent Widick, Starr and Leigh to the mound. It was a close battle through three innings with Ron's holding a slim 5-4 lead. In the fourth Ron's exploded for four runs on just one hit to ice the game. For Elks Leigh had a pair of doubles with Widick and Davis also belting doubles. Tink's Auto Parts made a move in the standings with a pair of wins during the week. They downed Lions 7-5 and also downed Arctic Circle 9-3. 9-3. Against Lions, Pickett went the distance for Tink's to record the victory. Hinton was on the mound for Lions. Lions took an early lead and led 3-1 after four innings when Tink's exploded for 6 runs on four hits in the fifth including a 2 run homer bv over uaraen rant uemiiu the pitching of Lundberg and Esplin. Lundberg had 8 and Esplin 7 strikeouts for a total of 15 in the contest. All outs were strikeouts in four of six innings. On the mound for Garden Park were T. Black, Jeppson and Anderson. For Ron's Lundberg had two doubles. Garden Park led early in the game and held a slim 1-0 lead at the end of three innings. Jaycees came up with a 10-8 10-8 win over Lions. Edwards was on the mound for the win. Anderson hurled for Lions. Jaycees led 10-5 after four and in the fifth Lions pushed in three runs, but could not make up the difference. dif-ference. Goulding doubled for Jaycees. For Lions Hinton and Anderson both had two doubles. Arctic Circle pulled an upset with a 10-9 victory over Jaycees. Black and Mathews combined for the mound victory. On the mound for Jaycees were Marchant and Perkins. It was a seesaw battle with Jaycees pushing in four runs in the third to take a 9-5 lead. But, Arctic didn't give up, and they came back with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and pushed in the tieing and winning run in the bottom of the final frame. For Arctic Jolley belted a home run in the third. Bohn also doubled. For the Jaycees Sorensen was the leading hitting with two hits in three trips. He also scored three runs. In the 11-4 victory by T & C that put them in front, S. Anderson and Petty shared mound duty. For Elks they sent Widick, Starr and Leigh to the mound. Both teams got 3 runs in the first inning including a home run by Leigh. T&C took the lead in the second with 3. They added one in the fifth and put the icing on the victory with Dennett. Lions could never make up the difference. It was Dennett on the mound fore the win over Arctic Circle with Stapel and Mathews sharing pitching duties for Arctic. Both clubs and seven hits. Extra base hits included a double Picket of Tink's and by Reber, Bohn and Carter for Arctic Circle in a losing effort. Ron's picked up a 8-1 win |
