Show ' Parowan native to head new U research center From the Utah Daily Chronicle, Chron-icle, University of Utah paper, we clip the following story which concerns one of our native na-tive sons, Dr. W. Sanford Topham, Top-ham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mario Topham. Excerpts from the article are as follows: Construction will get under way at the University Research Re-search Park early this sum- j mer on a new $1.8 million facility fa-cility to test and evaluate ar- tificial hearts and heart-assist devices. Dr. Wm. Partridge, vice president pre-sident for research at the University Uni-versity of Utah, and acting director di-rector of the new test complex said work on the first phase of the program he stated. Initial work, he said, included in-cluded hiring of key person-l person-l nel, setting up a management I and procurement program and-getting and-getting the project off the the ground for full operation by Jan. 1, 1971. As part of this the university has hired Dr. W. Sanford Topham, assistant professor of biophysics and bio-engineering, as manager of bio-physical service in the new test facility. Dr. Topham has worked with Dr. Homer R. Warner on the bio-medical applications of computers since 1961. Dr. : Warner is professor and chairman chair-man of biophysics and bioen-gineering bioen-gineering at the school. , The new test center will utilize computer systems for quick analysis of data from chemical, physical and ma- terial tests. |
