Show Douglas Bonzo invited to UI institute Douglas G. Bonzo, chairman of the department of English at Cedar City High School, has been granted a leave of ab-seence ab-seence by the Iron County School Board to attend an Institute In-stitute at the University of 111- inois February through June of this year. -- The Institute is under the i joint sponsorship of the National Na-tional Council Teachers of English and the Educational Professional Development Act which operates under the jurisdiction jur-isdiction of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Bonzo will be studying pys-cholinguistics, pys-cholinguistics, teaching supervision su-pervision of reading and teaching the language arts and a special elective course. The Fellowship Program is designed for state supervisors of English or reading. It is a special honor for Bonzo as he has been recommended by the Utah State Supervisor of English. It is the third fellowship fellow-ship for Bonzo during his teaching career. He attended the University of Southern California for two years under a special fellowship fellow-ship offered by the Ford Foun-datidn Foun-datidn and the Los Angeles City Schools. He attended an IDEA Institute at Utah State University. Bonzo is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Delta Kappa professional honor hon-or organizations. He is a unified member of the teaching profession. Currently Cur-rently he is serving on the Cedar Ce-dar LDS Stake High Council and he is serving his fourth year as secretary of the Cedar City Youth Council. The prominent educator is an honorary member of the the Kiwanis Club, and he sup. ervises the activities of the High School Key Club. He served a mission for the LDS Church in France and the Northwestern States and he completed four years of active duty with the U. S. Air Force. He will be accompanied to Illinois by his wife Lorraine. They will return to Cedar City in the summer where Bonzo will be employed in the SUSC Upward Bound program. |
