Show 1970 water outlook varied throughout state Utah's 1970 water supply outlook varies from "below average" in southern Utah to "above average" in Central Utah, according to a report released re-leased by the combined agencies agen-cies who conduct the annual snow surveys. Reservoir storage is 179 percent per-cent of the 1953-57 average for the month of January and 15 percent above last year, the report indicates. The January snow pack ranges from 46 percent average aver-age on the Upper Sevier to 205 percent at the Kimberly Mine snow course on Clear Creek. Storage in 11 principal reservoirs in Utah (excluding the Colorado River Storage Project) was about 746,000 acre feet, 179 percent of the 1953-67 average and 15 percent per-cent above last year at the same time. In the Iron County, southern south-ern Utah area, average, however, how-ever, were considerably below average. Drainages at Duck Creek Reservoir and at Webster Web-ster Flat, for instance were only 55 percent of normal. Snow courses in the Parowan area were also far below last last year and considered to be below normal, although longtime long-time averages in the area have not been established. |
