Hinton, assistant professor in History at Southern South-ern Utah State ' College, has ; received notification of the publication of one of his historical his-torical essays. - Entitled "Mining inthpAm. erican West," the paper is taken from his writings on "American West:' A Reorientation." Reorien-tation." Publisher is the' University Uni-versity of Nebraska Press un- d'er the Bison imprint. ' Prof. Hinton, a native of "St. ; George, has received atten- tion for his historical writ-I writ-I ings, and research, which deal j primarily with the early West. He has written studies regard-1 regard-1 i'rtg "Origin of the Welfare Plan of the Church of Jesus ', Christ of Latter-day Saints," "The Horn Silver Bonanza," and Maronri Young: On In-; In-; terpretator of Western Ameri-1 Ameri-1 ca." Other more recent histor-i histor-i leal papers he has contributed are "Civil Rights Controversy, ' 1948" and "The New Deal ! Years in Utah: A Political His-; His-; tory 1932-40." He is a graduate of Dixie ! College, Utah State University ' where he received Bachelor of I Science and Master of Science ; degrees in Political Science and History. He is presently a doctoral candidate at Brig-j Brig-j ham Young University, where ' he has served as -a research i and teaching assistant. 1 . He is a member of Phi Kappa Kap-pa Phi, Phi Alpha Theta, and also earned a USU Graduate Research Fellowship. He received re-ceived the Utah State Historical Histor-ical Society Outstanding His-1 tory Student Award in 1962. |
