Show Council accepts bids on pump ( well equipment 1 At a meeting of the Parowan Paro-wan City Council on Monday night bids were opened on equipment needed to place the water from the new well in the southeast section of the city, into the culinary water system, according to Mayor j Ralph Orton. Waterworks Equipment Co. of Salt Lake City was the apparent ap-parent low bidder, offering a bid of $1,975 for the pipe and fittings and a bid of $2,988 for the pump, or a total of $1,963. The bids were below the 'estimate of city engineer Ralph B. Piatt, and were turned turn-ed over to him for study to determine de-termine if they met the specifications speci-fications of the city. Action on them will be taken after he makes his recommendations. Councilman E. A. Burton informed in-formed the council that the city gravel trap up near the slab pile of the Mitchell sawmill, saw-mill, was filled with gravel to the extent that the water may come over the bank there. He recommended that the trap be cleaned again before summer floods are due. James B. Pinkham was appointed ap-pointed to serve as justice of the peace for Parowan City, on action of the couuncil. He will replace Wm. F. Burns who resigned effective July 1. The new justice is attending a special workshop to prepare him for the duties of his new , office. The Countil worked on and discussed the proposed budget of city expenditures for the 1969-70 fiscal year, and set a public hearing on said budget for tonight, Thursday, at the City office after which it will be passed. In connection with the budget bud-get discussion, Mayor Orton proposed that the salaries of the mayor and councilmen be raised. He stated that these salaries have remained the same for more than 20 years and felt that with the added time which is needed to take care of the offices now that additional compensation is a must. His recommendation was accepted by the council and the raises will be a part of the new budget. The council approved a project pro-ject that will redesign the en-tiro en-tiro electrical distribution sys-I sys-I tern of Parowan City and also approved the employment of a qualified electrical engineer to do the work for the city. |
