Show Outstanding games open seasgn's action in Cedar City Colt Baseball League play Cedar City Colt League base, ball got underway Monday evening and two outstanding games were played. Lockhart came up with a 5 to 3 win over Cedar Crest in the opener Monday and it was Ron's Sporting Goods posting a similar 5-3 victory over Par-owan Par-owan Tuesday evening. Monday's game featured a tough pitching battle between Paul Wyaskett and Wayne Esplin. Wyaskett picked up the Victory collecting 19 strikeouts. strike-outs. Esplin was credited with 16 strikeouts. Both teams pushed in three runs in the opening frame of play. For Lockhart, Mike Leavitt walked and Tom Cardon singled. They both scored on a triple by Wyaskett Wy-askett and Wyaskett came on to score on a pass ball. For Cedar Crest Jensen lived on an error, Ned Lunt walked. Jensen scored on a pass ball and Lunt scored on a single by Esplin, then Esplin came on to score on a pass ball. The teams settled down from that point on and it was the seventh before Lockhart broke the 3-3, game qpen. Steve Rollo singled, was sacrificed sacri-ficed to second by Leavitt, stole third and came on to score on a pass ball. Cardon gained first on a pass ball following a strikeout and came on to score the final run of the game, again on a pass ball. Lockhart belted four hits in the contest. Cedar Crest was held to three. Tuesday night it was a seesaw see-saw battle. Parowan took the lead in the third frame when Rick Trimmer singled and e-ventually e-ventually scored on a passed ball. Ron's came back with all three of their hits of the game in the fourth to score three of their runs. Bernie Leavitt walked, Roberts walked, Mike Carr tripled to score both runs and Carr came on to score on a single by Lynn i Hatch. Ron's scored without benefit of a hit in the fifth frame and again in the sixth frame. The first was on a pass ball and the second on ah error. Parowan pushed in two runs on two hits in the sixth frame, but it was not enough. George Loosley got on on a passed ball Robinson got on on an error and they both scored on a double by Scott Potter. Potter suffered the mound loss, although al-though he allowed only five hits. "Bruce Blackner garnered the victory for Ron's giving up five hits in the contest. |
