Show Campus-wide celebration to mark official adoption of college name known as Branch Normal School as an affiliate of the University of Utah, the Institution Insti-tution changed its name in 1913 to Branch Agricultural College when it became a branch of Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural College, now Utah State University. The name College of Southern Utah was adopted in 1953. A new name change became a matter of concern in 1965 when the State Legislature 1 granted the college independent independ-ent four-year liberal arts and sciences status, according to Dr. Braithwaite. Since that time the movement for the change has gained momentum finally achieving realization this year. Dr. Braithwaite credited SUSC students with providing the major impetus for the name change project. He said their concern reached a climax cli-max when the college official- , ly became a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Con-ference last year. "They were determined to give the college col-lege a new name which was commensurate with its reputation repu-tation and broadened scope of activity," he said. "Their thoughtful planning and well organized campaign plus sincere sin-cere faith and enthusiasm for the endeavor were the significant signif-icant factors in bringing about the name change.
