Top coaches and players in Region Eight during the past basketball season were honored hon-ored at annual banquet. The annual banquet was co-sponsored co-sponsored by Radio Station KSUiB, the SUSC Quarterback Clulb and Iron County Record. Outstanding players and coaches in both A and AA div-isions div-isions of Region Eight in basketball and' football were honored this past week at the Annual Region Eight Awards Banquet staged in Cedar City. Recipients were presented awards by Stan Watts, Athletic Athlet-ic Director and retired head basketball mentor at Brigham Young University, who appeared ap-peared as guest speaker for the annual event. In the class A division the outstanding football coaching honors went to Al Marshall of Beaver with Garth Draper of the Beavers winning the outstanding player award for the Region. The. Beavers, al-' though finishing second dn region re-gion play went on to pick up their second state football title. In basketball Kanab High School grabbed the honors with Coach Arlan Hafen winning win-ning the coaching honors and Danny Glover of the Cowboys winning the outstanding player play-er award. In Class AA division the state basketball champions from Delta took home the hardware with Coach Mitch Myers winning the coaching honors and Dave Adams, a junior for the Rabbits, winning win-ning the player award. Only in Class AA football were the honors split between schools. Coach Walt Brooks of Dixie won the coaching honors hon-ors while the outstanding player award went to Mike Rice of the Cedar High School Redmen. Balloting for the recipents was by coaches within the Region, Re-gion, according to Ernie Ried-elbach, Ried-elbach, sports director for Radio station KSUB, who handled the duties of master of ceremonies for the banquet. Coach Watts admonished the youths to be greatful for sports and what they can offer. of-fer.
