Nolan Roberts of the Cedar High Redmen slides across home plate in first inning of second game with Kanab Cowboys to put Redmen out in front early. Redmen take pair from Kanab The Cedar High School Red-men Red-men picked up a pair of victories vic-tories from the Kanab Cowboys Cow-boys Monday and are now in preparation to tangle with the Hurricane Tigers Friday after-noon after-noon at Hurricane. The Cedar-Kanab series was delayed to Monday owing to weather Friday. The Redmen jumped out to post a convincing convinc-ing 11-0 lead in the first game then came back in the second sec-ond to whip the Cowboys by a score of 9-4. I The two victories gave the Redmen a 3-1 league record and kept them in contention for the Region Eight crown with the Dixie Flyers. Nolan Roberts was on the mound for the shutout victory to open the series. He retired the first ten batters to face him before giving up a single iff the top of the fourth inning. inn-ing. Kanab was held to four hits, two off Roberts and two off Kevin Cox who came in to hurl the sixth inning. The Redmen went to the third inning before collecting a hit, but they had pushed in a run. In the frist inning Dale Flannigan got on on an error was sacrificed to second by Roberts, moved to third on a wild pitch and came on to score on a sacrifice by Kris Kupfer. In the third Roberts doubled stole third base and scored on an error to give the Redmen a 2-0 lead. The game was broken bro-ken up in the fourth with two tallies on hits by Matias Quantanilla and Rod Cosslett. The Redmen went on ,to score three in the fifth and after four tallies in the sixth the game was called on a 10 run lead ruling. In the second game Cornell Christensen picked up the mound win for the Redmen, but gave way to Tommy Torres Tor-res in the third frame. Again the Redmen jumped out to an early lead pushing in two runs in the frist inning. Flannigan Flanni-gan and Roberts walked, Flan-igan Flan-igan came on to score on a sacrifice by Kupfer and Roberts Rob-erts scored on a single by Mike Rice, In the second frame the Redmen collected five more runs on just two hits including a double by Piatt. Friday the Redmen travel to Hurricane to meet the Tigers Tig-ers and continue to feel the pressure to win in order to stay in the running. Game time for the double header will be 2 p.m. |
