Show Juveniles Reminded Of State's Laws Regarding Guns J Guns of various types are a gift often given by fathers at Christmas time and youngsters are always anxious to use their new gun. With this in mind,, the Utah State Department of Fish and Game issued this reminder re-minder on juvenile gun laws. No one under the age of 14 may own a gun nor may they use or hunt with a gun before reaching the age of 14 unless they are accompanied by a parent par-ent or guardian. If properly licensed at 14 and 15 years of age, juveniles may hunt for game birds and cottontail cotton-tail rabbits in season, but again, only when accompanied by some- one 21 years of age or older. ;At 16 the juvenile Is considered an adult insofar as the State Fish and Games laws are concerned con-cerned and may then purchase and use the adult licenses. The intent of this legislation is to provide a period of time when youngsters may be taken into the field by an adult so they will learn safe gun handling hand-ling habits and hunting techniques tech-niques in addition to their hunter hun-ter safety training before they reach an age when they can go into the field alone. Further provisions of the law subject the parent or guardian to arrest for contributing to the delinquency of a minor where they permit the juvenile to violate vio-late these laws. |
