Parowan High School Track and Field, , Tennis Men Qualify For State "B" Meet The Parowan High School I track and field and tennis I teams made a very good 1 showing at the Region Eight competition which was held at the new College of Southern South-ern Utah track and athletic field last Thursday. 1 The track and field team placed fifth in the ten school event, getting 25 points for the Rams best effort yet in this field of competition, and in doing this they were only outscored by the four biggest schools in the region.. I Then Coach Lowell Cald-i Cald-i well's tennis team finished I in second place behind the I Dixie High Flyers, winner in j all competition. The Flyers the State Class B. Competition Competi-tion this week end in Salt Laek City, and two of the racket wielders won places in the Class B Tennis meet at the same time. ' In track and field, Wayne Stubbs qualified to enter the state meet in the 100 and 220 yard dash; Scott Guffey qualified quali-fied to run in the 880 yard run and Steve Kincaid in the javelin event. Stubbs finished finish-ed second in the 100 and third in the 220 yard dash; Guffey placed second In the 880 and Kincaid won third place in tne javelin. ' Other point winners for tne Parowan High were Roy Barton Bar-ton fourth in the long jump in. i r in -f - ( 1 j . were credited with eignt points and Parowan got five for their second place position. posi-tion. And what is more creditable credi-table about this is the fact the the Ram players havn't had a tennis court to play on all year. The players and the coach strung up nets on the concrete court at Paragonah and got all their practice by traveling back and forth to our neighboring town. As a result of their placings three members of the track and field squad qualified to participate in their events in Willi a leap 01 13 icei, 772 111. , Mike Hulet ran fifth in the 1 440 yard dash and Richard j Durbin ran fifth in the 880. In ' addition the mile relay team picked up a second place in j the mile relay event, members mem-bers of the team were Ree Rowley, Scott Guffey, Mike Huleet and Wayne Stubbs. Getting Parowan points in the tennis play were Del Hu-lent Hu-lent in the No. 2 singles and Mike Rowley in the No. 3 singles, sin-gles, the events they will enter en-ter in the state competition. |
