Show Tax Study Shows Comparative Cost of Education Iron County School District's total operating costs, excluding exclud-ing school lunch, per pupil in average daily attendance were $574.85 for the 1967-68 term, according to the Utah Taxpayers Tax-payers Association a non-pro- rocketing school cost problem. From fiscal 1957 to fiscal 1967, the ratio has gone from ,29 to one to 24.6 to one, meaning that 15 percent more teachers are now needed to teach the same number of students. District ratios vary widely. Morgan County is high with a ratio of one teacher to 27.5. Daggett is low with a ratio of 11.9. Iron County's ratio is 24.3 students per teacher. Iron County per pupil east for teaching supplies Is $7.16, compared with a state average of $10.38. Weber was low with $4.94 and Daggett high with $18.98. The Association tabulations show what has been happening happen-ing to school costs in the state since 1957, noting that spending has been going up faster than enrollments. The report notes these in creases from 1956-57 to 1966-67: fit, statewide, spending watchdog watch-dog organization. The state average was $190.36 with districts varying from a high of $1,096.18 in Daggett down to $423.19 in the Murray School Distict. Iron County average annual teacher salary in 1966-67 was $6,552. The state average was $6,508. Tintic was high with $6,902 and Rich low with $5,813, the Association reported. Students in average daily attendance increased from 188,754 to 277,590, or 47. Instructional costs jumped from $32,487,543 to $97,062,370, or 199.
