Show Counselors Attend i Therapy I Workshop at CSU j Some 20 Utah counselors, physicians, and professional X people attended the Reality Therapy Workshop sponsored a by College of Southern Utah, Dixie College, and Region a High School Counselors Asso- g ciation at the CSU Ranch May 10 and 11, it was announced s by Dean Pearson, director of health and counseling services a at CSU. Dr. Joseph Smith, Salt Lake City psychiatrist, and Profes- sor Reed Morrell from Brig- ham Young University in- x structed the sessions and con- ducted group work, presenting principals of reality therapy l and giving counseling demon- a strations. Mr. Pearson said that real- 4 ity therapy utilizes a problem solving approach in counsel- g ing rather than the reflection S of feelings techniue used in g non-directive counseling. Real, a ity therapy deals with the x here and now rather than with S the individual's distant past. $ The theory behind this type of & therapy states that people be- g come emotionally disturbed or g upset because they behave ir- g responsibility The actions of a the anxious or upset person 9 come into conflict with his 8 values.
