Show PHS Class of '36 Meets in Reunion The Parowan High School class of 1936 held it's 31-year reunion in Parowan July 7 and 8, The members started to gather and visit Friday, July Ju-ly 7 and Saturday morning, July 8. Saturday evening at 7:30 dinner was served at the Third Ward cultural hall to 42 class members and guests. Honored guests were A. C. Hatch, senior class advisor to the group; John H. Pendleton and Louise P. Mortensen, Parowan, Par-owan, and Ivan Decker, Las Vegas. The invocation was by Farris Evans. Attending from Parowan: Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Benson, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Decker, Deck-er, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bet-tridge, Bet-tridge, Mr. and Mrs. Alma B. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Farris Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Robert daughter, Judy Lamoreaux, Elmer Lowe, Cleo Alger Bess and Ivy Ward. Two members of the class made the supreme sacrifice in their country's service in World War II, Dewey Topham and Austin Halterman. Two violin solos were played during the evening by Ivan Decker, accompanied on the piano by his granddaughter, Cynthia Thorley, Cedar City. Ivy Ward wrote a poem especially es-pecially for the occasion which was read to the group. Messages and letters from many of those unable to attend at-tend were read during the evening and pictures were shown of their families. Memories of by-gone days returned as familiar songs were sung by the group led by Anna G. Rawson with Mary Lyman at the piano. Each one in attendance then told of their experience over the past 31 years. The class voted unanimously to have Clarence E. Harris continue con-tinue as chairman of the group, with Alma Evans and Afton T. Werner as co-chairmen, and were enthusistic in a decision to hold another reunion in 1972. Comments were given by "beloved teachers present, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Decker and Louise P. Mortensen. The benediction was pronounced by Alma B. Evans. The reunion was adjudged a heart-warming success and the visiting and reminiscing continued as the tables and chairs were cleared away. Goodbyes were reluctantly said as the hands of the clock raced toward midnight. Several Sev-eral of those who reside in other areas stayed over to attend at-tend church in Parowan on Sunday. The committee responsible for the event were thanked sincerely by all attending. Its members were Clarence E. Harris, chairman and master of ceremonies; Robert and Florence Miller, Vera D. Decker, Deck-er, June M. Decker Anna G. Rawson, and Afton T. Werner. It was noted that 22 out of 45 living members of the class were In attendance with many coming a long way to attend. Brock, Connersville, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Murray Rawson, Orem; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Matheson, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gor-don Matheson, Cedar City; Freida G. Talbot, Panguitch; Devere Wood, Ventura, Calif:; Iva P. Prince and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Werner and daughter Linda, Lin-da, Las Vegas. |
