Show WHAT'S HAPPENING Cedar High School vCSf By Jill Carter Cedar High School Holds Honor Assembly. Leader Express Thanks At the end of the school . year, a time is set aside for outgoing club, class, and student stu-dent body officers to review their past achievements and to introduce and install new officers. This honors assembly was held Tuesday, May 16. The Club officers spoke first: Jan Jones, Pep Club; Marsha Chamberlain, Mohey Tawa; Carol Lee Gardner, FHA; Mike Petty, Lettermen; Joan Old-royd, Old-royd, Model United Nations; Larry Brough, Thespians; and Mike Hoff, Hiking Club. Dave Farnsworth, Key Club president, announced the winners win-ners of the club Beard Growing Grow-ing Contest. The beard with the heaviest growth belonged to John Misel. Larry Neagle and L. D- Walker sported the best groomed beards. Judges for this contest were Mrs. Betty Bet-ty Murdock and Mr. Arthur Bohman. The winners will receive re-ceive shaving kits and lots of recognition for their beard-growing beard-growing attempts. Senior Eddie Brown, junior Dale Hatch, and sophomore Deon Kelsey, class presidents, expressed their thanks for class project support. Tonya Burch and Gordon Topham, presidents of the Boys' and Girls' Organizations, reviewed the year's progress in their departments. Cedarian editor, Terrie Gilger, explained her memory building yearbook. Boys' State, Girls' State, and Freedom Academy sponsors were on hand to introduce their representatives. At the final part of the program, pro-gram, next year's student body officers were officially installed. Secretary Beth Cor-ry Cor-ry handed over her minute book to Melissa Thorley. Robyn Reid, vice president, handed his key over to Kim Matheson. The student body honored president Eugene Dalley with a standing ovation as he handed his gavel over to Mike Pratt. Trainees Complete Work at CHS Six more graduating trainees train-ees complete their student teaching at CHS with the close of the term. Most students admit that training teachers are tougher than their regular teachers because be-cause trainees are "young and ambitious" while the regular teachers are "mellowed with experience." But the trainees are enjoyed at CHS by both students and faculty as a "change of pace." Mike Carter is currently teaching in the math department depart-ment under Gary Smith. Mr. Carter will graduate this spring, go on to summer school for certification and then teach somewhere in the Granite School District. Mervin Adair is somewhat of a celebrity around CHS, having served as CSU student body president. His future plans include graduating and attending summer school, then its on to Mesa, Arizona for a Seminary Principal position at Carson Junior High School-While School-While at CHS he works with Mrs. Sharon Olsen in Business Busi-ness Education. Frank Chaffin, a composite English major, teaches with Arliss Jensen. A graduate of Bountiful High, Mr. Chaffin hopes to teach in Kearns after summer school. He worked for KSUB raidio station last year and plans to do so again this year. ' Mrs. Daphine Dalley is the only female student teacher at CHS As a Cedar High graduate, gradu-ate, she Is on familiar territory terri-tory training under Allen Bauer and Kent Bishop in the social science department. Mrs. Dalley will move to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma while her husband hus-band is with the National Guard and then to Idaho or California. Garth Jones teaches with Mrs. Betty Murdock in Foren-sics Foren-sics and Miss Maxine Capel in Speech and Drama. Mr. Jones is quite well known in his classes as "your friendly bus driver". He drove buses to both State Forensics and Region Re-gion and State Drama. His future fu-ture plans include a Seminary teaching position at Orderville. Order-ville. Dean Brown majors in Political Po-litical Science. His teaching assignment is with Allen Bauer and Kent Bishop. Mr. Brown hails from Parowan where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball-All basketball-All the student teachers claim they have enjoyed their stay at Cedar High despite the fact that the students often "test" the trainees as the trainees "test" the students. |
