Show ommcndablG Program An outstanding concert by the combined organizations organiza-tions of the Cedar City High School music department depart-ment was presented Sunday evening to a small but appreciative audience. The event was the concluding activity of the music mu-sic department for the school year and represented a culmination of effort throughout the year. One of the most impressive features of the concert was the fact that the orchestra, various vocal groups and the band represented nearly 300 students, or nearly one-half of the entire studentbody at the high school. In spite of this high representation the program did not suffer, but was well prepared and well presented. The previous day the units participated in the Region Eight Music Festival activities at Delta and each brought back to the school top ratings, an indication of their effectiveness and overall talent. Involvement in such programs for so many students stu-dents is a tribute to the leaders in the music department depart-ment of the high school and the cooperation of the administration. It must also be noted that for one of those persons directly concerned, Harold Boyce, director of the band and orchestra, it was his final concert as a participant par-ticipant in our public school system in Iron County. As indicated by school principal Clair Morris, Mr. Boyce's talents as a director and leader in the music field, will not be lost to the community, as he has accepted ac-cepted a position with the music department at College Col-lege of Southern Utah. Our compliments go out to both Mr. Boyce and Mrs. Roper for their fine production Sunday evening, as well as thanks to Mr. Boyce for the leadership he has given the instrumental program in Cedar City schools over the past several years. It is our hope that in finding a replacement for him the board of education will be able to provide equally talented leadership in this program that has won wide respect for so many years throughout the entire en-tire state. |
