Show Iron County Safety Organization Complies with Act In conformance with the Notional No-tional Highway Safety Act requiring re-quiring all counties and cities cit-ies to organize an active safety program, the Iron County Coun-ty Commission has appointed a committee, responsible to Norman Heaton, county commissioner com-missioner in charge of safety, to act on all matters pertaining pertain-ing to safety. Recent safety legislation requires that all counties must establish a safety program to conform with National standards if they are to qualify for cooperation cooper-ation in the Federal Aid Secondary Sec-ondary Roads program, sponsored spon-sored by the Federal government. In order to avoid duplication of services, and with the permission per-mission of the Cedar City Council the county safety group joined with the present Cedar Safety Council, presently present-ly composed of J. Vurge Smith, chairman; Herman Anderson, Jack Hayes, J. Clair Morris, Antone Lambert and LaVell Chamberlain of the coordinating coordin-ating council, by appointing Gordon Farnsworth to represent repre-sent Parowan, Kenneth Top-ham Top-ham from Paragonah, Joseph F. Williams, Kanarraville, and Ira Schoppman, county sheriff. Harvey Nelson, representative representa-tive from the Utah Safety Council has assisted In the organization work necessary to the committee by attending attend-ing the April 25 and May 16 meetings of the group. Chairman Chair-man Smith has been retained as chairman of the larger group with Gordon Farnsworth serving as vice chairman. Principal aim of the group will be to alert county and city citizens to the appalling losses to the community caused caus-ed by traffic, industrial, farm, and home accidents. Education Educa-tion through news media, including in-cluding publications and radio, ra-dio, together with programs In schools will be undertaken. Suggestions of safety corrections correc-tions will be forwarded to the responsible organizations in order to correct safety hazards. |
