Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR March 9, 1959 Iron County Commissioners Parowan, Utah Gentlemen: At a membership meeting of the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce held Feb. 26, 1959. the problem of what should be done with the Wood's Ranch property was discussed and the members unanimously voted to go on record as being opposed to giving the property to the Forest For-est Service. Since that time it has been called to our attention that the Forest Service has withdrawn with-drawn its offer to take this property. prop-erty. We feel hat the wisdom of being be-ing opposed to the transfer of the property to the Forest Service can only be determined by what the county does with the proper- j ty from here on. If nothing Is done then it will probably have been unwise to have the county keep the property. If It be developed, de-veloped, then we feel that the position we have taken will prove to be in the best Interest of all the people of Iron County Coun-ty and this area. The development could be done in steps over a period of two or three years so that the expense would not be too heavy In any one year. The labor involved in-volved could be shared by all the people of the county, not merely by the civic groups of Cedar City, as this Is a project for the benefit of all the county. However, we do feol that Iron I County should be responsible for the major part of the actual cash outlay of the project. This may not amount to a great deal If the labor is performed without cost. We urge the commissioners to set up a committee to plan the work and development and to do so with the idea In mind that work be commenced this spring. If the bas'c work was done, that Is, roads, water system and sewage, sew-age, the camp ground could be used immediately and the other phases could bo completed while the area war in use. There are a great many people who do not even know the location loca-tion of the ground and it might be well that the first order of business should be to erect a sign on the property to properly identify the aame. We of the Junior Chamber of Commerce hereby pledge our i support and offer our services in doing our share (or more) in the development of the camp area. Respectfully, II. Douglas Lunt, President Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce. |
