Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY I WOMEN'S CLUB TO SPONSOR CUNIC BENEFIT Thursday, Feb. 26 the Escalante Escal-ante Valley Women's Club will hold a linen and towel shower for the benefit of the Valley Clinic Cli-nic at Enterprise. Dr. H. C. Macfarlane and various var-ious church and civic groups in the area are attempting to equip the clinic to serve as a badly needed emergency hospital. hospi-tal. The Women's Club shower will be held at the home of Mary Moyle. Club president Dorothy Gardner will act as co-hostess for the evening. Members are asked to bring single bed sheets, pillow cases, bath towels, hand towels, face cloths, or either new or used baby clothes, particularly diapers and gowns. Inasmuch as the regular February Feb-ruary meeting of the Women's Club on Feb. 12 was cancelled by the heavy storm there will also be several Important items of business to be discussed. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held Thursday, Mar. 19 at the home of Edith Hunt with Frances Piper as co-hostess. co-hostess. The lesson on weight control and food fads by Miss Mabel Merrell, Iron County home demonstration agent, originally scheduled for Feb. 12, will be given at this time. PUBLICITY COMMITTEE NEEDS PICTUnZS The publicity committee cf the Escalante Valley Coordinating Council is going to need a great many pictures for the work it has planned. Anyone who has good pictures of places of scenic scen-ic or historical Interest In the area, of outstanding community activities, of farming activities, hunting, fishing, or Ljwrts, or of building or people who helped In the development of the valley, val-ley, or the first farming work done In the area that they would be willing to have used Is asked to contact Aliens Fmlth, Johnr.j McGarry, Maud Moyle, Marileen Austin or Marty Wood. The commltte also announces that beginning next week Gladys Holland will report social and personal news In the valley, and everyone Is asked to help by contacting Mrs. Holland whenever when-ever they have news to report. Marileen Austin, who has handled hand-led this news In the past. Is going go-ing to concentrate her efforts on work which the committee Is planning for the National Travel Show which will be held In Los Angeles In April. SCOUTS TO OBSERVE BIRTHDAY The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of the Escalante Valley will hold their annual Birthday Banquet, "The Carnival of Colors," Friday, Fri-day, Feb. 27 at the new recreation recrea-tion center. A program and demonstrations dem-onstrations are being planned by the Boy Scouts under the direction direc-tion of George Jolley, assistant scoutmaster. The Cub Scouts have been making posters, napkins and napkin rings, and each boy, assisted as-sisted by his family, has been working on a miniature parade float following the "Mardl Gras" theme, to be used as table decorations. dec-orations. EXTENSION SERVICE TO MEET WITH COORDINATING COUNCIL Wednesday, Mar. 4, Iron County Coun-ty Agent Wallace Sjoblom and Home Demonstration Agent Mabel Ma-bel Merrell will meet with the Escalante Valley Coordinating Council to discuss ways In which the extension service can help the people of this area. This will be a general council meeting and all adults In the valley are requested re-quested to be In attendance. There are also a number of Items of Important regular business busi-ness to be discussed at this time. The meeting will be held at '8 p. m. PTA WINDS UP WEEK OP ACTIVITIES Last week was a busy one for the Escalante Valley PTA. On Wednesday officers and members of the group traveled to Cedar City to attend the Founder's Day program of the Cedar City PTA Council to which tna Escalante Valley group belongs. At that time the local club presented a life membership to Elementary School Principal Don Applegate In recognition of his outstanding outstand-ing service to the school and the community. Thursday the Escalante Valley Val-ley PTA held Its own Founders' Day program under the direction of Doris Pederson and program chairman Georgia Moyle. An outstanding out-standing program honoring Abraham Ab-raham Lincoln was presented. At this meeting the nominating nominat-ing committee presented Its selection se-lection of candidates for the annual an-nual election to be held In March. Candidates named were as follows: President, Marian Woolsey and Barba Laub; vice president, Revoe Hulet and Helen Burgess; secretary, Juanlta Butler But-ler and Betty McCarty. Mrs. Pederson Ped-erson stressed the fact that nominations nom-inations may also be made from the floor at the time of the election elec-tion meeting if anyone has additional ad-ditional candidates to suggest. The week's activities were climaxed cli-maxed by a fund raising dance held Saturday at the Modena Recreation hall. The dance, under un-der the direction of PTA vice president Petty Bracken and Elementary Ele-mentary School Principal Don Applegate, was an outstanding suixtss. Much to the dismay of the girls In attendance, the lovely doll given away ty the PTA and the wordrobe donated by the Campfire Girls, was won by Cub Scout Errol Bracken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Bracken. Also Included In the evening's activities were a highly successful success-ful bake sale and bazaar. Auctioneer Auc-tioneer for the event was Bryner Wood, president of the Escalante Valley Lions Club, and PTA president pres-ident Doris Pederson expressed special thanks to Mr. Wood and to the Lions Club, which turned out en masse to support the dance following their Ladles' Night dinner. Funds raised by this activity will be used to purchase supplies for future public health clinics sponsored by the PTA; to provide an Easter party for the children of the vdlley, and for routine expenses. PLEASE There la a great deal of consternation con-sternation among would-be book borrowers In the Escalante Valley Val-ley owing to the fact that no one can find our anything about when or where the promised bookmobile will visit the valley. On its previous trip there was no time to notify the general public of its visit and as a result re-sult officials gained the Impression Impres-sion that there was very litle Interest in this service in this area. On the contrary there Is a great deal of interest, and it would be appreciated if there Is anyone who has a schedule of prospective bookmobile visits If they would contact any of the officers of the Coordinating Council In order that the public can be Informed. Feb. 26, the girls will bring Items for the linen and towel shower for the Valley Clinic Clin-ic In Enterprise, which Is being sponsored by the Escalante Valley Val-ley Women's Club. The troop Is also 'planning a used clothing drive to collect warm sweaters, coats, and other clothing as part of the Campfire Girls' national drive to provide clothing to be sent to the needy overseas.
